THE BENEFITS OF REFLEXOLOGY AFTER GIVING BIRTH
Many women seek out reflexology during their pregnancy but the benefits of it postpartum are equally as beneficial; it can boost breast milk production, your immune system and keep hormones in balance.
Reflexology is relaxing, rebalancing and restorative. What more could you want for when you have just given birth? It’s also the perfect excuse to spend an important indulgent, deeply nourishing hour for yourself! And you can have baby with you as well - it’s a lovely way for you both to connect to each other.
Good Energy Flow
The good news is, you can have reflexology immediately after birth. There are no ‘waiting to recover’ times. With my clients, I simply adapt my technique to take into account a few things such as blood flow.
Post-partum reflexology can help with:
• Balancing your hormones and stimulating others like prolactin for breast-feeding or for helping your boobs to adapt if you’re not
• The flow of your digestive system and the lymphatic system as it taps into your parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous systems to help calm them
• Promoting good quality sleep for when you manage to capture a few winks
• Help the healing process of your wound or wounds – caesarean or not
• The profoundly advantageous effect it has on you
There’s no hiding from it, there is always a demanding time of transition whether it’s your first, second or sixth baby! Being able to have an hour to let go and relax can significantly reduce any negative effects of stress on your mind and body.
What’s more, if you wanted, you can have your baby with you too. Some of my clients have found this to be a very special bonding moment as you both go into a beautiful, sub-conscious healing slumber. It can really deepen your special connection. Or you can leave them with a trusted one. For treatments with me, they can also stay safely close by to give you total peace of mind if you wanted.
I would always encourage you to have your first post-partum reflexology session within the first four weeks of giving birth. The sooner the better to really reap all the benefits. For those that have had a caesarean, if you’re local to Chiswick I am also available to come to your own home to help your body heal through this treatment too.
It’s always a good idea to book before you go into labour so that it is in the diary and it’s not another thing to think about until I send you a reminder. Why? Because when your new bundle of joy arrives, you have your me-time already scheduled which is very important - a happy mummy means a happy baby!
